Frequently asked questions

Can I choose which garage I want to take my vehicle to?

If you have opted for dealership repair then your vehicle will be repaired at the main authorised dealership. Otherwise, Oman Insurance Company will send it to one of their authorised garages. The garage will be chosen depending on the vehicle type, nature of damage and scheduling availability.

Can I transfer my insurance if I have sold my vehicle?

Yes. However, as the insurance premium is dependent on driver profile, the rates may differ from one driver to another. If the vehicle is mortgaged then a release letter from the mortgager is required.

Do I get a refund if I cancel my car insurance?

Yes, provided there have been no "non-recoverable" claims made against your policy and you have had it for less than nine months.

How do I make a claim?

You should visit Oman Insurance Company's claim office with:

  • Original police report / court documents
  • Driver’s license
  • A copy of your car registration
  • Passport (if required to prove your age)
  • The insured car in question (if in drivable condition)

How do you calculate my car insurance premium?

A number of factors are used to calculate your premium, such as your age, your driving experience, claims history, location, and the type and value of your vehicle. Please provide your car details to our branch or call centre staff to obtain a quotation for your premium.

How will compensation for a death be determined under the policy?

If the deceased is a third party (non-family member/employee) inside or outside the insured vehicle at the time of the accident, then the amount of compensation is decided by the regulatory courts of the city. However, if the deceased is a family member or an employee, then the compensation is only payable if the insured driver has chosen the optional "Driver & Passenger Cover" package.

How will my claim be calculated?

Oman Insurance will take care of the repair cost and you will pay the excess amount. If you are less than 25 years of age, you will also have to pay 10% of the claim in addition to the standard excess. You can pay this amount at Oman Insurance Company's office or at their workshop.

If my car is damaged due to a hit and run incident or whilst parked, will it affect my no claims bonus?

If Oman Insurance is unable to recover the cost of the claim from the third party, then this will be treated like any accident and your no claims bonus entitlement will be affected.

Is it possible for my insurance and the vehicle registration to be under two separate names?

No. Normally, the policy holder should be the main driver, and since he or she would have bought the vehicle, the registered owner as well. The traffic department will only register a vehicle in the name stated on the insurance certificate, which obviously follows the name of the registered owner.

Should I carry my insurance policy documents with me at all times while I am driving?

If your car is registered with the traffic department, then your registration card can be used in case of emergencies as it carries the insurance policy number as well.
