Sustainability has been at the centre of our tradition and culture. “On land and in the sea, our forefathers lived and survived in this environment. They were able to do so because they recognised the need to conserve it, to take from it only what they needed to live, and to preserve it for succeeding generations.” The late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Founding Father of the UAE.
As part of the UAE emerging art scene and following the bank’s agenda of ESG (Environmental Social and Governance) and empowering creative industry, National Bank of Fujairah launches its second consecutive art project.
With the support of Dubai Culture & Art Authority, we foresee this project as a milestone initiative in the UAE with the purpose to contribute to and enhance the country’s art position. The aim of this campaign is to provide a platform through the form of art and turn the spot light to explore what we are doing for our planet and encourage commitment to fight global warming and its impacts.
The connection between art and nature is since centuries before, where artists dedicate their art to highlight environmental issues. Across many media and time periods, artists of all cultures has been working building the bridge between art and sustainability. The theme of this year campaign is kept simple, yet too deep rooted "IT ALL STARTS WITH ME". It is metaphor of our current critical global ecological situation, and the role that each one of us can play individually towards a ‘collective global impact’.
NBF is calling all artists from every corner of the nation to join and share with us your creative thinking and represent in your own way of how you have seen the progress of the planet and how do you see the future.
Your creative concept can be anything where the aim is to benefit the environment whether that is by using accessible and natural materials, or by inspiring climate awareness on pressing issues. You can be inspired by the connection between human and nature, or the danger our planet is facing. Think of making a difference, raising awareness and putting sustainability at the core of your art.
You are also encouraged to use upcycle materials, reclaimed objects and natural resources to create artworks that not only wouldn’t damage the environment but would also celebrate it and protect it.
The competition is open for all artists, 18 years and above.
You must be a resident of the United Arab Emirates. If your artwork is selected amongst the top 10, you will need to present a valid Emirates ID to claim your prize.
