National Bank of Fujairah set to welcome over 1,700 runners to participate in second NBF run
National Bank of Fujairah PJSC (NBF) has over 1,700 participants due to take part in its second annual run in the scenic emirate of Fujairah on 23 November 2018. This year’s participation numbers exceed the inaugural event which took place in 2017.
Once again this year’s run will take place under the Patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah. Runners of all levels are expected to compete in the 3km, 5km, 10km races as well as a new 11km mountain trail route, which will take place against Fujairah’s stunning mountain backdrop. The 11km trail run will be a first not just for Fujairah but for the whole of the UAE, as the first competitive run route to take place directly through a mountain range.
Now in its second year, the Fujairah Run has a brand new addition to the race. This weekend’s event will also include a category for People of Determination with free entry for all participants. Almost 70 entrants have signed up to take part, far exceeding expectations and setting a promising precedent for the event in the years ahead.
Other categories also remain popular in their second year, attracting numerous fitness enthusiasts and adventure-seekers alike across the range of distances. Over 500 people have signed up for the 3km fun run category, along with another 500 entrants for the 5km race. For the more challenging 10km and the 11km mountain trail races, each category has signed up 179 and 103 runners respectively, which is equally impressive considering how gruelling each of those races will be.
Trophies and medals will be awarded to the top five winners across each class. In addition, great cash prizes totalling AED 266,000 will be awarded to UAE residents and nationals that come out on top in the 5km, 10km and 11km races. Valid UAE identification cards will be required in order to receive the awards. Details regarding exact reward amounts can be found online.
All who complete the run will receive a special participation medal. The run also promises fun for the entire family, with a variety of entertaining activities split into four zones.
During the run, participants will experience Fujairah’s history and natural beauty with the race set against its spectacular sandy beaches and the rocky Hajar Mountains. Other prominent landmarks covered in the routes include a 17th century-fortress and the Sheikh Zayed Mosque, the second largest in the country.
