A chip and PIN card has an embedded microchip that stores information in a secure, encrypted format. The microchip makes it more difficult for unauthorised users to copy or access the information on the card.

The chip in the card requires you to enter your Personal Identification Number (PIN) when you make a debit card transaction at stores using chip and PIN technology, and no signature is required.

This is to ensure that your chip and PIN card can’t be used by unauthorised users to make purchases if it is lost or stolen.

Overseas ATM cash withdrawals will also incur an international ATM withdrawal fee as specified by the country where your withdrawal was made.

As a security measure to protect your card from misuse, you will only have three consecutive chances to enter your PIN even if it is at three different merchant terminals or ATMs.

Three incorrect PIN attempts will lock your PIN and your card will be temporarily unusable. You will have to call 8008 NBF(623) to unlock your PIN.

Do not use your debit card before unlocking your PIN, as a fourth incorrect PIN attempt will result in your card being swallowed by the ATM.

Please visit your nearest NBF branch for a new PIN.
