National Bank of Fujairah launches its third annual Art Competition

Competition embraces the UAE’s flourishing artistic community and aims to inspire action towards a sustainable future

National Bank of Fujairah PJSC (NBF) is pleased to announce the launch of its 2023 Art Prize. Under the theme “Time is Now!”, and emphasising the need to take immediate action towards sustainable change, the competition is open for submissions from UAE Nationals and residents.

Through the initiative and this year’s theme, NBF aims to nurture the UAE’s creative community while inspiring action towards a better future, highlighting how choices of individuals have a direct impact on the collective ecosystem. Artworks can be submitted in a variety of forms, including painting, drawing, sculpture and digital art, and should promote global sustainability and prompt environmental awareness

The NBF Art Prize, which began in 2021, received over 500 entries last year. It is a milestone initiative aimed at fostering creativity and empowering the nation’s emerging art scene, with the top three winning artists receiving cash prizes.

Vince Cook, CEO of NBF commented: "This year's art competition continues to highlight not only NBF's Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance (ESG) agenda, but also that of the nation. With COP28 taking place in the UAE later this year, we hope our art competition helps to kick-start even more environmental conversations and inspires the wider adoption of sustainable practices. We are particularly proud to be helping to bring the UAE’s flourishing artistic community into this critical area and eagerly await their submissions."

With the support from distinguished figures from the UAE art world, this year’s Selection Committee is composed of Patricia Millns FRSA, Khalil Abdulwahid, Director – Fine Arts at Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, Aisha Alabbar, Business Owner at Aisha Alabbar Art Gallery, and Ahmad Al Rashid, Founder and Director at TALK Curated Creative Events.

Following the closing date for submissions on 15th September, the Selection Committee will review and score entries based on pre-defined technical criteria. Ten entries will then be shortlisted, with their artworks displayed at a renowned art venue. The top three will be announced at a ceremony on the same day.

In addition to cash prizes, the top three winning artists will receive a one-on-one mentoring session from an esteemed judge. The ten shortlisted artists will receive a ‘most creative art piece’ certificate which will be endorsed by the judges.
