National Bank of Fujairah launches sponsorship programme for Emirati Nationals from HCT Fujairah

Partnership to provide financial assistance to handpicked students and train them for careers in financial services

National Bank of Fujairah has announced a strategic partnership with the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) Fujairah through which it will sponsor and train handpicked Emirati students for banking careers upon graduation. The sponsorship initiative, NBF's second partnership with HCT Fujairah, further underscores the bank's commitment to the Fujairah community as well as the country's Emiratisation efforts.

Under the programme, NBF will pay monthly stipends to select fourth year students and expose them to the bank's business operations during their school holidays. They are committed to work with NBF upon graduation and are expected to maintain good grades throughout their fourth and final year of study, thereby assuring NBF with a ready pool of fresh talent from which to help grow its business.

Four students will be selected for the programme's inaugural cohort, and their internships will be individually tailored to provide them with an overview of the bank's key business areas and critical departments, from corporate and institutional banking, retail banking to finance and information technology.

NBF's partnership with HCT Fujairah follows the bank's donation of AED 250,000 to the college last year for the purchase of laptops and iPads for its needy students.

At the sidelines of the Fujairah Career Fair, of which the bank is a key participant, NBF's Head of HR Abdulla Aleter said that the programme is specifically catered to developing human capital within the bank's home base of Fujairah; whilst the bank's overall Emiratisation ratio is close to 41%, almost two-thirds, or 63% of its staff in Fujairah are Emirati Nationals.

"NBF has long enjoyed a strong relationship with HCT Fujairah because of the faith we both share in our youth's capacity for great things.

"We are confident that this latest programme will set a new benchmark in the private sector's outreach efforts to Emiratis in Fujairah and the greater UAE. It will also bolster NBF's continuing investment in a cadre of high-quality local talent aimed at helping the bank achieve further success."

Brian Keenan, Acting Director of HCT-Fujairah, said that the high academic standards and extensive on-the-job training expected from the programme will ensure that trainees are better prepared for the rigours - and rewards - of a career in the financial services.

"We are delighted to continue our partnership with the National Bank of Fujairah as we strive to unleash the potential inherent in our country's youth. The partnership opens the door for our students to establish careers in one of the leading local banks in the UAE.  We look forward to further strengthening ties with NBF in the years ahead."

NBF's latest collaboration with HCT Fujairah is an extension of the bank's recruitment efforts, which include an ongoing management trainee programme that fast tracks Emiratis for leadership positions and a career advancement programme singling out long-time local staff for advancement.
