The NBF Multi-Currency Debit Card allows you to link a single AED debit card to multiple currency accounts. When you make a transaction in AED or a supported foreign currency, the respective account will be automatically debited.
For transactions in AED or any supported foreign currency, the relevant account will be debited directly. If the transaction involves a currency not supported by the multi-currency setup, your default AED account will be used. If the feature isn’t enabled, all transactions will be debited from the default AED account.
  • Eliminates unnecessary foreign exchange conversion fees on eligible currencies.
  • Ensure smooth transactions across multiple currencies.
  • Provides flexibility and cost savings for travelers and international spenders.

Supported currencies include AED, USD, EURO, and GBP, based on the bank’s offerings.

You can activate this feature via placing a request at the NBF call center, or by visiting any NBF branch.

If your specific currency account has insufficient funds, your default AED account will be debited.

You may request to enable or disable the feature by contacting customer support if you have an account covered under the multi-currency feature.

Yes, if you make a transaction in a currency not included in the multi-currency setup, you will incur a standard foreign exchange conversion fee, and the transaction will be debited from your default AED account.

Yes, the NBF Multi-Currency Debit Card is compatible with all types of transactions, including in-store purchases, online payments, and ATM withdrawals.

Yes, if the withdrawal currency matches one of your linked accounts, that respective account will be debited. If it doesn’t, the amount will be withdrawn from your AED account, along with applicable forex charges.

When you use your NBF Multi-Currency Debit Card at an ATM outside the UAE (or in a currency other than AED), the displayed balance may vary based on the ATM and the network used:

  • ATMs supporting multi-currency balance display: If the ATM can retrieve balances from linked currency accounts, it may show the available balance either in the local currency or in the primary currency of your card (AED).
  • ATMs not supporting multi-currency balance display: Some ATMs may only display the balance of your default AED account, even if you have funds in other linked currency accounts.
  • Balance conversion: If the ATM shows your balance in the local currency, an indicative exchange rate may apply, which could differ from your bank’s actual rate. To view your current balance, use mobile or online banking.

Regardless of what balance is displayed, transactions will be processed according to the Multi-Currency Debit Card setup:

  • If you have a linked account in the transaction currency, that account will be debited directly.

For unsupported transaction currencies, the default AED account will be debited with applicable forex conversion charges.

Refunds will be credited back to the same account that was used for the original transaction. If the original transaction was made in a supported foreign currency, the refund will be credited back to that currency account. If the transaction was processed in a non-supported currency and debited from the AED account, the refund will be credited back to the AED account.

If a transaction is reversed by the merchant, the amount will be credited back to the account from which it was debited. The processing time for reversals depends on the merchant and the payment network (VISA).

If the refund is processed in a different currency by the merchant, the amount will be converted based on the prevailing exchange rate at the time of the refund and credited to the appropriate AED account. Visa standard forex conversion rates and charges may apply.

If your Multi-Currency Debit Card is lost or stolen, you should immediately block it using the bank’s mobile app, internet banking, or by calling customer support. You can also request a replacement card to continue using the service.

Yes, as long as the payment is in a supported currency, the respective account will be debited. If the subscription is in a non-supported currency, the default AED account will be charged, and standard forex charges will apply.

There are no extra fees for transactions in supported currencies. However, forex conversion charges will apply if the transaction is in a non-supported currency or if there are insufficient funds in the relevant account, resulting in a fallback to the AED account.

When you use a debit card that is linked to a Multi-Currency Account, your debits will appear in the corresponding account based on the currency of the transaction. Here’s how it works:

  1. Transaction in AED or a Supported Foreign Currency
    • If the transaction is in AED, it will be reflected in your AED currency account linked to the card.
    • If the transaction is in a supported foreign currency (USD, EUR, GBP), it will be deducted from the corresponding currency account linked to the card.
    • For example, if you make a transaction in EUR and you have an EUR account linked, the amount will be directly deducted from your EUR account.

  2. Transactions in Non-Supported Foreign Currency
    • If the transaction is in a currency that is not supported, the debit will be processed from your default AED account, and a foreign exchange conversion fee may apply.
    • For instance, if you transact in JPY, which is not a supported currency, the amount will be deducted from your AED account after conversion.

  3. Insufficient Balance in the Linked Currency Account
    • If the relevant currency does not have sufficient funds, the transaction will default to the AED account.

For example, if there are insufficient funds in your EUR account for an EUR transaction, the amount will be deducted from your AED account after conversion.
